On August 25th the Myriad NY office participated in a Myriad Gives event with City Harvest. Founded in 1982, City Harvest is the world’s first food rescue organization. They are dedicated to helping feed almost 1.4 million New Yorkers facing hunger. In one year City Harvest will collect 55 million pounds of excess food from restaurants, groceries, bakeries, manufacturers and farms and deliver it free of charge to 500 community food programs across the city. That’s about 150,000 lbs of food each day!
On our visit, the Myriad NYC team participate in distributing 16,000 lbs of produce to more than 400 families. On a particularly warm and humid New York day, we packaged and distributed produce including watermelons, potatoes, carrots and apples. Eligible members of the local community passed by each of the produce tents to receive a pre-determined quantity of each food item.
A truly great cause that is making a lasting difference in the lives of so many. City Harvest exists to end hunger in communities and is doing just that. Check out their website to learn more.
